Kia Sportage steering failure

Here's a story of one very lucky customer.

Her car was parked at Marion Shopping Centre.

When she turned the steering wheel to reverse the vehicle out of her parking space, she discovered that there was no control of the direction of the car - it was like her steering wheel wasn't connected to the wheels.

Fortunately she was a member of RAA Roadside Service, so she gave them a call. After discovering that the vehicle could not be driven it was placed on a tow truck and delivered to Blackwood Dyno Tune & Service.

After raising the car on a hoist, we discovered that the connecting rod on the steering closest to the steering box had snapped rendering the vehicle without steering.

It was very lucky that the customer wasn't on a winding road or traveling at speed when this problem became apparent.

This is a really good example of why it is so important to have your car regularly serviced and your suspension components checked, especially after impacting any large potholes or curbing.
